Inpatient Care
OB
The Berwick Hospital Center's Obstetrics Department emphasizes family centered care. We offer labor, delivery, and recovery(LDR) in the same room to maximize your comfort. Our highly specialized staff is there to guide you through your birthing experience.
Private postpartum rooms are spacious and private to encourage bonding between the newborn, new parents and their family.

Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit at Berwick Hospital Center consists of ten (10) private rooms, arranged in a semi-circular pattern, with a centralized nursing station. Each patient room is identically equipped with emergency supplies and newly installed SpaceLabs monitoring equipment to handle both acute medical and surgical patients alike.
Our friendly and competent physicians and nursing staff serve primarily adult/geriatric patients with actual or potential life-threatening conditions that require a more intense acuity of care. Patients are candidates for the ICU when skilled, critical care and/or monitoring offers a chance of producing recovery from serious illness or when treatment modalities being employed preclude care of a general medical/surgical unit, such as the use of mechanical ventilators, Swan-Ganz catheterization, temporary/permanent pacemakers, vasoactive intravenous infusions, post-cardiac catheterization care, or invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
For more information about specific ICU services and/or nursing opportunities available to join our progressive team, please contact Tracy Underhill, RN, BS, Director of Critical Care Services, at (570) 759-5165.
Medical Surgery
The medical/surgical unit is designated to provide services to medical and surgical patients ranging in age's infant to elderly. It is comprised of three wings with two nursing stations. Thirty-eight rooms are available to accommodate 68 patients. TV's are included with each bed and all rooms have bathroom and shower facilities. Private rooms are also available. Senior Circle members enjoy special benefits when admitted to the medical/surgical unit.
Berwick Behavioral Health Services for Older Adults

Behavioral Health Services provides short term psychiatric treatment for those aged 55 years and older, a population recognized locally as our fastest growing segment. The unit focuses on helping the older adults achieve the highest level of functioning through maintaining or improving cognitive skills, developing social skills and self-esteem, maintaining or improving physical health, and providing other individualized treatment. Assessment and Treatment
Upon admission, each patient receives a complete psychiatric and medical evaluation by both an attending psychiatrist and medical internist or family practitioner. Members of the treatment team work with the patient, family, referral source and community service agencies to provide a comprehensive plan of care for each individual. Treatment plans address life skills, medication education, recreational therapies and exercise. Placement issues and options are also explored with the patient and family, when appropriate.
The Multidisciplinary Treatment Team
To help patients achieve the best quality of life, our team of specialists, include psychiatrists, psychiatric nursing staff, a recreational therapist and social worker, sees each patient and meets regularly to assess patient's abilities and to establish and update individualized treatment plans as necessary. Medical and allied health professionals, such as dietitians, physical/occupational/speech therapists, pastoral care workers, and pharmacists are available for consultations and treatment.
Admissions and Referral
Referrals may be made to the program by mental health and human service agencies, physicians, hospitals, nursing and personal care homes, family members and self-referrals. Involuntary commitments of persons in Columbia, Montour, Snyder and Union counties can be processed through our designated exam site in the Berwick Hospital Emergency Room. For patient referrals, or for more information regarding the geriatric psychiatric services, please contact the Berwick Behavioral Health Services for Older Adults at (570) 759-5160.
