Home Health Services are provided by nurses, therapists, medical social workers and home health aides depending on the services required. The services include Skilled Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Medical Social Work and Home Health Aide. Services are determined by the appropriate needs of the individual and will be planned, coordinated and made available under the direction of the attending physician and qualified staff.

Hospice

Hospice is a team approach to the care that is focused on the alleviation of the physical symptoms and the provision of emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual support to patients and their families or significant others. Hospice care is palliative, not curative in its goal or treatment for patients with a terminal illness. Hospice team includes medical director, nursing, medical social services, home health aide, homemaker, spiritual care services, dietary counseling, volunteer services, and bereavement counseling services as appropriate to the patient's care.

Normal office hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. A hospice and home health nurse are available 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. For more information, please call (570) 759-5153.

Rehabilitation Services

The Berwick Hospital Center's rehabilitation department offers the full spectrum of rehabilitation services. Which include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. They offer these services during inpatient stays and at-home recovery, as well as outpatient advanced care.

The Physical Therapy department has state of the art equipment to assist in the rehabilitation of their patients. They have an Aquaciser, which is a type of aquatic rehabilitation that has the use of an underwater treadmill. There is a Balance Master, which is a computer-assisted system, which assists in the evaluation and treatment of balance disorders. They have a Biodex extremity testing and exercise unit. The Physical Therapy staff can treat a wide verity of orthopedic, sports, and work related injuries. As well as, gait and balance disorders, and various types of wounds.

The Occupational Therapy department offers physical performance testing on the Greenleaf system, which can test and compare hand strength and function. They manufacture custom static and dynamic splints for the hand, wrist, and arm. They perform cognitive evaluations as well as test and treat for Activities of Daily Living. The Occupational Therapy can treat a wide verity of hand injuries, which can be surgical or nonsurgical in nature.

The Speech Therapy department can test and treat for swallowing disorders. They evaluate and retrain for speech / language problems. They can also provide treatment for dysphasia problems.
